CHISELED AND COMPILED
video, color, sound, 61 minutes, 2009
DESCRIPTION
Chiseled and Compiled brings together old and new video works interspersed with new experimental films in a one hour program for theatrical screenings. The compilation takes the form of a television “broadcast day” condensed to one hour: video programs alternating with commercials. The “commercial interruptions” belong to a series called No Product, 16mm advertising films that have been scratched, inked, and defaced so as to obliterate the objects being sold. Chiseled and Compiled ends with a film of “The Star Spangled Banner” accompanied by patriotic images, the old fashioned sign-off used by television stations in the wee hours of the morning. This too has been brought to the edge of complete obliteration.
Chiseled and Compiled includes the following works:
No Product (Fluffy)
Aggressive Child
No Product (Dogs)
Youngstown
No Product (Shower)
The Fall of Communism as Seen in Gay Pornography
No Product (Steam Room)
More British Sounds
No Product (Surprise)
Film Montages (for Peter Roehr)
No Product (Tires)
Discrepancy (A New All Around Leap Forward Situation Is Emerging)
The National Anthem.
